Miracles Happen!

wo ways to live your life.

One is as though nothing is a miracle .

The other is as though everything is a miracle.

Albert Einstein

Let me share an experience. Last evening ... 7 May 2008!

Yesterday, I received a phone call from a friend whom I hardly knew ... she had gone into labour.
How wonderful I thought! Yes... until I found out that her water bag broke some minutes ago ... and the baby is half way through the birth canal ...and she's all alone at home in her apartment with her two year old son with absolutely no means to get to the hospital. Husband is on a seminar hundreds of miles away.

Shriek!!!!! What! ... I said. Nope ... I screamed.

In between the Lamaze class panting and breathing she told me ... yep ... I can clearly see the baby's feet out now. Both of them ...

Double shriek!!! What did you say!!!!

Despite the panic , I managed to call an ambulance and my brother. "Get to her house fast cos I'm half way across town," I half screamed. Luckily , my brother and his friends out of the kindness of their hearts agreed to help. No problem they said... Or so they thought!

The door was ajar when they got to her apartment. They nudged the door open. Lo and behold..what was the first sight they saw.?

" Unspeakable" was their unanimous answers. My brother, Din , a lawyer, resorted to shouting for help, knocking on the neighbours' door and calling the Police. A neighbour came to the rescue with some naturally acquired midwifery experience. Munir my brother's friend (a Bangladeshi) decided he could help by providing her some assistance; .. or did he stick around because he was curious? Really ... there wasn't much that they could do but wait for the real medical team to arrive. To move her would be dangerous or even ( God forbid!) fatal .

The ambulance came in amazing record time ... much to be proud of ..literally in minutes! Bravo! Bravo! My heroes!

Anyway ... of course.., the medical team did their amazing jobs and both Mom and Baby survived the ordeal and they are doing fine!

Well done Hospital Sg Buloh emergency team! Excellent job!

My brother of course was feet away watching the entire events with mixed feelings.

In reflection, whatever it was we did ..right ..or wrong ... that was an evening of miracles!!!!!

Miracle 1: My friend managed to call me on her battery flat cell phone.
Miracle 2:I got the phonecall and managed to get someone at her apartment ... super fast!!!
Miracle 3: 3 gentlemen were willing to help a woman in labour.
Miracle 4: The medical time came in amazing time.
Miracle 5: The mother was able to hold on and wait for the medical team.
Miracle 6: A little baby boy was born.. feet first ...
Miracle 7: A group of people who do not know each other; came together to help with the birth a little baby boy .....
Miracle 8: The miracle of birth and life ...
